Sue Nichol
Sue Nichol was born in Hartlepool on the North East coast and spent her childhood by the sea exploring rock pools and sailing dinghies her dad built. The legacy of this has been a lifelong love of the sea. She now lives and works at her home in Sheffield, making regular visits to the coast for inspiration.
In her painting Sue tries to capture the textures and atmosphere of land and sea. She paints places she knows well and visits again and again, both literally and in her imagination. She aims to capture them exposed to the extremes and intensity of light. Her paintings are a mixture of bold strokes and impasto effects with echoes of more subtle areas through the use of glazes and fine brushwork. She uses various materials such as sand and paste to create texture.
