Jim Sykes

Jim Sykes grew up in North Wales, close to the coast and the mountains which he loved. Since then, he has worked and lived in many parts of the UK before moving to Harrogate in 1997. His working life was as an engineer but Jim has always enjoyed painting.

Jim’s inspiration comes from the countryside, the towns and especially the coastal scenes of North Yorkshire which he depicts with a joyful , brightly coloured, naïve style reminiscent of children’s book illustrations. His paintings are populated with little figures of people, especially children, and with animals, and most of all, a powerful sense of fun and joie de vivre.
