Ian Burke was born in Saltburn and grew up in Redcar. Having gained a Fine Art degree he studied at Goldsmith's College in London. He then taught Art at schools including Queen Catherine's School, Kendal, Barnard Castle School and Rugby School before moving the Eton College to take up the post of Drawing Master, always dividing his time between Berkshire and his home in the North- East. He lived for four years in Staithes before moving inland onto the North York Moors. After twenty years of teaching at Eton Ian returned home for good in December 2021.
Ian has always produced his own work alongside his teaching vocation. He has exhibited widely including presenting one man shows at Zillah Bell Gallery, Thirsk and Aldeburgh Contemporary in Suffolk. He has had a painting and many prints selected for the Royal Academy Summer Shows.
Ian's recent paintings are inspired by recent visits to gardens, objects found on the beach and the creatures to be found on the North Sea coast.
We stock a wide range of framed prints by Ian Burke available to purchase in the gallery. A wider variety of unframed prints suitable for posting in a cardboard tube can also be viewed here. Please contact us for more information.
